At Vancouver Smile Studio, we believe you deserve to feel amazing when you smile! Life is too short to worry about your teeth. That’s why we specialize in creating natural looking smiles that stand the test of time. The best veneers are the ones that mimic nature – no one sees the dentistry, they just see your beautiful smile. Never underestimate the power a beautiful, healthy smile can have on your confidence and well being.
Why porcelain veneers?
At Vancouver Smile Studio, the most common reason we use porcelain veneers is to restore teeth that are wearing down or aging and deteriorating faster than they should. The goal is to preserve the remaining tooth structure, and sometimes improve how the teeth are working together as a system. The final result is strong, healthy, beautiful teeth that will stand up over time
If you have teeth that are getting shorter, wearing or chipping, becoming darker and more transparent, or if you just want a beautiful white smile that nature never gave you, porcelain veneers may be for you. Veneers can strengthen weak teeth that have become thinner with age and are losing enamel. They can be used to preserve your remaining tooth structure so it doesn’t continue to deteriorate. In some cases where the bite is contributing to your dental problems, veneers may be used to create a better bite to set you up for long term dental health.
What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are thin facings of porcelain that are custom made and bonded over the front and edge of your tooth. They gain their strength from the bond to the existing tooth structure. Our approach to veneers is very conservative, meaning we plan veneer cases so they are as minimally invasive as possible. Veneers can help preserve tooth structure that would otherwise be wearing away. They essentially serve to replace tooth structure that has worn away from grinding, malocclusion (a bad bite), erosion (effects of acid), or that was never there in the first place in the case of small or spaced teeth.
FAQ
Will you have to grind away my teeth?
No! You must have adequate enamel (outer layer of the tooth) to be able to have a veneer in the first place. We want to keep as much enamel as possible so the veneer will be intimately bonded to the tooth. This means we set things up so that any changes to your underlying teeth are minimal. This takes experience and skill. We have been doing this type of treatment for well over 20 years so we can be confident our methods stand the test of time.
What will my teeth look like with veneers?
That depends on your personal preference. Some people want their new smile to look like their own natural teeth, just from 20 years ago. Others want a smile they’ve never had. So the answer is, it depends what you want! We are here to guide you towards the best smile for you. Some want the Hollywood smile but more often than not, people want their teeth to look natural, strong, and healthy. You can choose based on your individual goals, and we have the skills and experience to guide you to a result that you will love.

What are the steps involved?
Your smile transformation can be completed in a few easy appointments.
- Initial visit/exam – We listen to your goals and discuss possibilities. We take photographs, the necessary X-rays, make models and do a dental exam to assess and plan your case.
- Consult Appointment – You have an opportunity to ask questions and we discuss any considerations for your specific case. Together we will finalize your treatment plan and our ceramist will then create your customized wax-up, the blueprint for your new smile.
- Veneer Prep Appointment – You spend the morning with us to complete the work for your veneers. Many patients choose conscious sedation for this appointment to be as relaxed and comfortable as possible. This makes for a great appointment! You will leave with temporary veneers and will be amazed how great your smile will look even at this stage. The temporary veneers allow you to test drive your new smile before the final work is placed.
- Design Check – At this short appointment a week or two later, we assess the bite, appearance, speech and function and make any adjustments necessary before the ceramist fabricates the porcelain veneers.
- Veneer Placement Appointment – The veneers are tried in, assessed for appearance and fit, then bonded in place with the latest techniques. We all celebrate your new smile!
- Follow-Up Appointment – Final check to evaluate your new smile, and any final adjustments. If it has been recommended, you will receive your night guard at this visit as well. Final photographs will be taken.
